Communities in the CRS have leveraged the opportunity to earn credit for promoting the availability of flood insurance and its importance as a preparedness measure to broaden awareness of flood hazards within their jurisdictions. Another benefit is that communities whose residents have flood insurance coverage recover faster from flooding and suffer shorter disruptions. In the course of exploring CRS-related mitigation options, some communities have helped their residents lower their insurance premiums when their buildings’ insurance ratings are double-checked. Further, CRS communities with repeatedly flood-damaged properties analyze the causes of those repetitive losses and take action to try to mitigate them.
